Hey my name is Matthew Hatley. I am 16 and I always loved the weather ever since I was a baby. I used to stand at the door and watch the lightning during thunderstorms. I was a little chap when I used to do that. I am a meterologist for mainly the southeast but occasinally I do forecasts for the whole country. I do my best to give information about the weather to people who ask me what the weather will be like for the day, or the week. My favorite time of the year is winter. I do the best weather forecasting during the winter. I enjoy all of the people who view my forecast, but not only mine but all the other forecasters at Weatheradvance.com

I checked the models and very credible websites and its in agreement this storm will be more of an ice event with accumulations from 1/10-1/4 of an inch, I am not ruling out snow completely I think there will be a short amount of time where the ice pellets/freezing rain could change to sleet/snow like it did in 2009

The last run showed the moisture is more south now. Seems like the places in the triad of nc will have plenty of cold air but may be moisture starved. I bet charlotte is right in the perfect zone right now.

This definitely looks like a classic cold air damming situation with a region of high pressure over New England and northeast winds pushing cold air down the east side of the appalachians and a system with moisture and warm air trying to overrun it. These kinds of forecasts are tricky because even very slight changes in temperature at the surface can mean the difference between freezing rain or sleet. There could be a brief period of light snow or flurries at the very onset of the event as some of the moisture with this system outruns some of the warm air associated aloft, but it looks like there will be some significant problems with ice, even down through the I-20 corridor because of any precipitation that falls having a decent chance of sticking to the roads because of the cold ground temperatures. Looks like any snow that falls with this system over the Carolinas would be at the very onset, but would quickly change to sleet and freezing rain, perhaps even over to all rain in some areas, but not before causing some significant travel problems.

All I know is I was given attitude and told I was starting trouble cuz I even suggested that showing a amounts graffic 6 days before n event with a model that’s been flip flopping all winter is kinda funny….now where’s the storm? I gave my opinion cuz its something that’s been happing ALL winter. And you guys on here are the 1st to say look at trends. Well the trend for the I-95 has been bust this year. I saw this storm to be no different.

You all have to relax. Storms and even temperature are difficult to predict even a day or two in advance.
These guys based their “forecast” on what they see at the time. This storm could still change gears.
I think all of us in the Northeast think that all winters will be like 2010/2011. That was fun but freakish.
Those winters are rare occurences. Lets see what happens on Friday.

Of course Jacksonville NC will be missed again. It’s starting to get annoying. When will we ever get snow?

I’m not here to join forces and bash these guys on here…its just that the last couple years since the 2011 winter the following winter is hyped as a cold and snowy one and in certain sites BIG storms on the way…n as soon a model or 2 comes around n shows it 9-7 days out here comes the hype n then….zip. hype is great to keep people interested n stuff…I guess nowadays u need that in certain things…but its just it gets annoying… n when things don’t pan out that’s when the bashing begins…that’s why alot of met don’t come out n hype events cuz the weather is so changing… everyday is different from the next. Just pipe down with the “hyping”…there be less pie throwing in the end. But in that regard the guys on here do the best they can. N for the most part do a good job.

I totally agree with you scooter I think they do a good job it’s hard to forecast weather especially snow and they do it at the best of there knowledge.
