so wait what storm are you talking about? when is this storm going to happen the one that was posted today? The post says that it will be real this time? 9-12 inches!

No, it does not seem likely at this point in time. Cold air is likely but not a snowstorm of that magnitude. We saw the models supporting such a storm and have since backed off that idea. We will keep you updated though!

aw yea ok. Well I can really see now that this pattern is changing. Hopefully soon their is a snowstorm out their for the east coast like over the next two weeks. Thanks for the updates!

yes that’s the best news I heard so far this winter! so now I see all the ingredients coming together for the cold and the new pattern. So now the questions is, when is the east coast going to get slammed with snow? I’m hearing we are going to get like clippers like over the nex two weeks, but I would like to know when are we going to get those BIG blockbuster storms? I’m hearing like February through March. O and thanks for answering my questions!

It is possible… the NAO is going negative for the first time in over a month and the AO is expected to Tank, so conditions are setting up, and right now there are some signs that one may be in the makings mid-month, but it is still to early to call on that one. Thanks for the question!

o wow thats great news! About time for this pattern to change! Thanks for the reply, and can’t wait until you post about an upcoming storm that could happen by mid month on the main page!

so dante you’re saying that when this big rain maker(wish is was snow) storm comes up the east coast next week it will change the pattern? Also I know the NAO is going slightly negative and the SOI values are decreasing, but what about the blocking? Hopefully everything comes into place which I think is going to happen. It has to change! can’t wait!

    • Dante 9:12 am on January 9, 2012 Permalink | Reply

I think that it will start the pattern change, or at least be a factor in it. The NAO is going close to negative and the AO is projected to tank after Mid-Month. There are some indications that blocking is going to set up soon. I think the new pattern will be in place for the end of January threw February and the fist part of March. That is the best time frame i think we will see when it comes to snow. Next year should be better for snow though as the la nina is weakening rapidly and I think we will be in a Moderate El Nino by next winter, which is usually good for snow in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. I can’t wait either. Thanks for the question!

It will likely be around average temperatures but very wet. There will be a few cold, and snowy periods and a few mild periods. Snow amount will be near, maybe a bit more than last year.
